The Survival Secret of the Cockroaches

Cockroaches have numerous characteristics which enable them to survive even the deadliest situations.

Diet: The preferred diet of cockroaches include grease, meat, sweets, and starches. However, they can eat everything including cheese, leather, glue, starch in book bindings, hair, dried skin, decaying organic matter, stamps, wallpapers, you get the idea!

Adaptability: Cockroaches have been able to inhabit the earth for millions of years just because they remain unaffected by changes that the planet undergoes. Right now, for instance, cockroaches are surviving and acquiring foods from the infrastructures built by human beings such as homes and offices.

Size: Due to their small sizes, finding space and building shelters is not difficult for cockroaches. They can adjust in smallest cracks and multiply in huge numbers behind walls. They usually occupy areas under the stoves, fridge, at the bottom of kitchen cabinets, behind walls, picture frames, and inside of electronics.

Nocturnal: Cockroaches rest in their tiny spaces during the day and go on a quest to find food and water once it’s dark. The liberties to explore areas while much of other habitats sleep to allow them to gain energy and reproduce in large numbers freely.

Reproduction: Cockroaches produce eggs in forms of capsules. Each capsule consists of 40 eggs that are placed in secluded spaces. Cockroaches can produce up to 400 offspring in a year; the number varies depending on the type of species. The progeny of cockroaches mature quickly and acquire the ability to reproduce.

Variation: The characteristics of cockroaches vary depending on their species. Majority of the cockroaches prefer areas with moisture. However, brown-banded cockroaches can survive numerous days in dry areas without water.

Cockroaches are not entirely invincible, and water is their weakness. They cannot survive complete scarcity of water. The trace of water is the sole factor in determining the habitability of cockroaches.

Problems Cockroaches Cause!

Diseases: Roaches are notorious for carrying conditions, such as E.coli, salmonella, staphylococcus, and streptococcus.

Allergies: Numerous people experience allergic reactions, such as skin rashes, sneezing, watery eyes, nasal congestion, and even asthma, when they come into contact with cast skins and feces of roaches.

Damage: Cockroach secretions can affect the flavour of the food, produce detectable odour, and stain surfaces.

Food Contamination: Cockroaches can transfer bacteria and disease pathogens onto food, dishes, utensils, and counters by walking on them. Consuming food contaminated by cockroaches can cause dysentery, diarrhea, and food poisoning.
